Doctor Krymtseva: Daytime sleep is an affordable prevention of heart attack and stroke. How much sleep do you need?

daytime sleep
Associate Professor Tatyana Krymtseva called a short daytime sleep one of the simplest ways to reduce the risk of life-threatening vascular accidents.

According to Tatyana Krymtseva, Associate Professor of the Department of Fundamental Disciplines of the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, daytime sleep is an accessible prevention of heart attack and stroke. She revealed the benefits of this method in preventing such severe cardiovascular diseases in a conversation with Izvestia.

When asked how much sleep one needs, the doctor answered: 20 minutes is enough.

Krymtseva explained that sleep is a period when the body “tests” the work of its internal systems and organs, recovers, and also produces the necessary hormones. Without enough sleep, all these processes are not carried out to the required extent, which increases the risk of disorders, including in the work of the heart, blood vessels, and brain. According to the expert, the habit of sleeping during the day, allowing yourself a rest of 10 to 30 minutes between 13:00 and 15:00, ensures the prevention of these disorders and at the same time improves protection against heart attacks and strokes.

It is not necessary to go to bed and fall fast asleep – even just taking a nap in a chair is enough, the doctor emphasized. Krymtseva added that ideally such rest should be carried out in silence.
