Proper consumption of fats promotes the health of the cardiovascular system, scientists say.

The harm of fatty foods to the body is a myth, properly chosen fats improve the health of blood vessels and slow down aging. This was reported by the publication “Govorit Ufa”, citing one of the latest studies. Its authors came to the conclusion that following a Mediterranean diet rich in healthy fats (nuts, olive oil) effectively prevents the development of atherosclerosis, a vascular pathology associated with heart and brain diseases. In particular, it was found that in people who followed such a diet for five years, the risk of atherosclerosis decreased by almost a third (28 percent).

“Additional consumption of high-quality olive oil enhanced the positive effects, reducing the risk of premature death by 10 percent.”
Scientists note that the key component of healthy fats are polyunsaturated omega-3 acids – they have a beneficial effect on the condition of vascular tissue, counteract vascular rigidity, and also improve the processes of blood clotting regulation, which improves protection against its thickening. The best sources of omega-3 fatty acids are flaxseed oil, cod liver, and walnuts.
