Coloproctologist Nina Zubova: defecation once every three days may well be a physiological norm.

Going to the toilet “in a big way” is not possible every day, and this will not be a deviation. For some people, less frequent stools are a normal feature of the body’s functioning, coloproctologist Zubova told Life about this.

“It is considered normal to defecate from three times a day to once every three days, provided that the stool is soft and the process does not cause discomfort. For some people, emptying the colon once every 2-3 days is a physiological norm.”
Zubova added that if an adult has had bowel movements not every day since childhood, but on a more infrequent basis, his gastrointestinal tract may not be affected. to be afraid – there is no pathology there. Much more alarming signs are stool retention and cessation of regular bowel movements in a person who previously visited the toilet every day.

The specialist emphasized that in adulthood, almost any change in bowel function and the usual bowel movement schedule can be a symptom of a disease, including colorectal cancer.

“If stool retention persists for a long time, or if stool was regular, and then it the frequency has changed, you need to seek medical help and find out what is the reason for such changes,” advised the coloproctologist.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about how the blood that is released from the rectal area differs in hemorrhoids and intestinal cancer.
