Changes in your mood that signal post-COVID syndrome

Changes in your mood that signal post-COVID syndrome
The NHS tells you what to do if you have long-term COVID and find yourself feeling down and depressed.

Being unwell can affect your mental health.

It says:
“It is not unusual for your mood to deteriorate after you have experienced such an important event like coronavirus (COVID-19). It may take some time to process what you have been through and what impact it has had and may still have on your life.”
The NHS says signs and symptoms of low mood can include:

  • Sadness
  • Feelings of anxiety or panic
  • Worry
  • Fatigue
  • Low self-esteem
  • Frustration
  • Angry
  • Feeling hopeless
“If you can’t do the things you normally do, it can also have a big effect on your mood. If the negative feelings persist, are too strong for you, or are preventing you from leading a normal life, you may need to make some changes and get some extra support. If you experience symptoms of depression most of the day, every day for more than two weeks, you should visit your general practitioner.
The health authority explains that the chances of having long-term symptoms do not appear to be related to how you are sick when you first get COVID-19 because “people who had mild symptoms at first may have long-term problems.”
