Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Arsen Rasulov: if you notice unusual changes in your bowel function, you need to be wary.

Oncologist Rasulov spoke with Lenta.ru about the signs of colorectal cancer. The doctor noted that one of these signals is that a person's intestines begin to function differently.

“If a person has had constipation all his life, then this is normal for him. But if a person who is prone to loose bowels develops constipation, or vice versa – someone who has had constipation all his life periodically begins to experience diarrhea, this should be a cause for concern,” the oncologist said.
Professor Rasulov emphasized that it is necessary to consult a doctor for any changes in bowel function that persist for more than three to four days.

What also should not escape attention is the appearance of blood, which can be noticeable on toilet paper, underwear, or in stool (it can change color). Even if this convincingly looks like a manifestation of hemorrhoids, it is better to consult a specialist and get checked, the oncologist believes.

The expert also advised to remember that when colon cancer develops, a condition may occur that is associated with anemia – lack of iron and low hemoglobin levels.

“A decrease in hemoglobin levels in the blood can be an early sign of colon cancer. In this case, a person may not experience other symptoms other than weakness and dizziness. In such cases, it is important to consult a doctor to identify the cause of anemia,” noted the doctor of medical sciences.
Previously, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about what types of cancer can occur in connection with frequent alcohol consumption.
