Cardiologist Maria Shchelochkova: supplements are useless for getting rid of heart disease, but they can be quite effective for strengthening the cardiovascular system.

Cardiologist Shchelochkova reported that magnesium supplements are among those beneficial for the heart.

“Most often, magnesium preparations, polyunsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants and others are prescribed to support the cardiovascular system,” the doctor told RIA Novosti.
Shchelochkova added that the most effective antioxidant for the heart and blood vessels is coenzyme Q10 or ubiquinone – it has a cardioprotective effect, improves protection against coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension, and metabolic syndrome.

According to the specialist, supplements with Omega-3 are also used in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The doctor recalled that these polyunsaturated fatty acids help normalize cholesterol levels in the blood.

The cardiologist drew attention to the fact that the supplements do not have a therapeutic effect and should not be taken as medicine. Taking them helps the heart and blood vessels function with a lower risk of damage, but dietary supplements do not save you from diseases.

“Taking magnesium, polyunsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants in the form of dietary supplements will not be able to get rid of serious problems of the cardiovascular system, but it will help to replenish their common deficiency and thereby help strengthen the system,” the doctor clarified.
