Cardiologist Orlovsky: diabetics and heart patients are susceptible to sunstroke

Cardiologist Dmitry Orlovsky told which people are at greater risk of getting sunstroke.

Sunstroke causes a negative condition caused by exposure to sun rays on the head and irritating the meninges (up to the development of inflammation). Cardiologist Orlovsky stated that children and elderly people, whose body's thermoregulation mechanisms do not function fully – their heads and brain quickly overheat in the sun in the sun, are primarily at risk of suffering from this condition in the summer.

Also, Orlovsky warned, diabetics and heart patients are susceptible to sunstroke.

“At risk are people with diabetes, cardiac ischemia, tachycardia, cardiomyopathy, asthma, liver cirrhosis and hepatitis, as well as pregnant women and people who have had a stroke and heart attack,” the doctor specified in a comment to NEWS.ru.
Symptoms of sunstroke:

  • Redness of the head, neck (its rigidity);
  • Dizziness;
  • Weakness, ringing in the ears;
  • Nausea;
  • Increased heart rate;
  • Fever.

In addition, when overheated in the sun due to swollen meninges that put pressure on the brain, convulsions, disorientation, and loss of consciousness are possible. Symptoms of sunstroke can last from a few hours to several days, depending on the person's health. Victims should definitely consult a doctor.
