Cardiologist Natalia Gavrilyuk: broken heart syndrome can occur due to deep emotional experiences.

Cardiologist Gavrilyuk commented on a case in the Moscow region, where a woman came to doctors with symptoms resembling an acute cold. At first, the patient's arm hurt, then her throat became sore, after which her neck began to ache. After examining the woman and collecting her medical history, doctors concluded that the cause of her illness was Takotsubo syndrome, also known as broken heart syndrome.

Doctor Gavrilyuk noted that this is the name of a cardiac pathology that develops in close connection with experiences (both sad and happy), during which there is a sharp change in hormonal balance.

“Takotsubo syndrome is an acute pathology of the heart associated with a spasm of its vessels. Unlike myocardial infarction, there are no primary problems with the vessels. As a rule, their lumen narrows against the background of a large amount of adrenaline in the blood,” Gavrilyuk said in a comment to “KP”.
The cardiologist noted that the consequences of this pathology are reversible – it is only important to diagnose the syndrome in time and provide the patient with the necessary assistance.

The doctor named shortness of breath and chest pain, which can radiate to the arm, shoulder, throat or abdomen, as the main symptoms of Takotsubo syndrome. Natalia Gavrilyuk warned: in some cases, its first symptom may be fainting. A sharp drop in blood pressure may also indicate broken heart syndrome.

It is noteworthy that, according to statistics, women most often suffer from broken heart syndrome.
