Yakut scientists have patented a method of infraorbital anesthesia in dentistry

Scientists of the Medical Institute of the North-Eastern Federal University received a Eurasian patent for the “Ushnitsky-Chakhov method of infraorbital anesthesia”. The development provides conditions for improving the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia of the infraorbital nerve during dental interventions.

Yakut scientists have patented a method infraorbital anesthesia in dentistry

The method of infraorbital anesthesia Ushnitsky-Chakhov can improve the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia due to the accurate determination of the topography of the infraorbital foramen, the point of injection, the direction and depth of the needle in the region of the infraorbital foramen. This completely eliminates the complex anatomical and topographic landmarks that are used in the classical method of infraorbital anesthesia. This approach minimizes trauma to the neurovascular bundle in the region of the infraorbital foramen and improves the quality of dental care provided.

“Clinical studies of the effectiveness of our method of anesthesia in the examined patients were carried out on the basis of the dental clinic of the NEFU Clinic and the clinic of Eurostom + LLC. The Usnitsky-Chakhov method of anesthesia has been introduced into the training program for students, starting from the third year of the Department of Dentistry, and students of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of Physicians of the Medical Institute of NEFU. Our development is used in practical classes in the discipline “Local anesthesia and anesthesiology in dentistry,” says Alexander Chakhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapeutic, Surgical, Orthopedic and Pediatric Dentistry.

The authors of Ushnitsky-Chakhov's infraorbital anesthesia are planning in the future to develop other methods of local anesthesia in the maxillofacial region, which will increase the analgesic effect and safety of anesthesia.

Recall that earlier Professor Innokenty Ushnitsky and Associate Professor of the Medical Institute Alexander Chakhov patented a method of mandibular anesthesia – it takes into account the individual dimensions of the jaws of dental patients and is used to anesthetize the lower jaw during dental interventions.
