The choice of makeup depends on self-esteem

Makeup choice depends on self-esteem
Research has shed light on the existence of a subtle relationship between self-esteem and makeup choice. Curiously, scientists have also previously found an interaction between both high and low self-confidence and cosmetic choices.

It is well known that a woman who doubts her own attractiveness uses a lot of makeup in order to disguise the causes of her complexes. However, a woman with high self-esteem also resorts to cosmetics in order to attract attention. And now a new study by scientists from the University of Alabama has examined the relationship between makeup use and self-confidence. As a rule, the fair sex spend a significant amount of time on personal care. This is partly due to the psychological pressure that is placed on women in connection with their expected appearance.

The researchers recruited about 1,500 Brazilian women aged 18 to 75. Various facts were established about them, including demographics, general and social self-esteem, assessment of their own appearance, and intensity of use of cosmetics. General self-esteem determines how a person feels about himself, while social self-esteem measures how he feels in various social situations.

The results showed that almost half of the participants spent less than 5 minutes a day on makeup. Women with high overall self-esteem spent less on cosmetics, while those with higher social self-esteem spent more on makeup. Finally, women who placed a high value on appearance applied makeup more frequently and spent more time on it. (READ MORE) University of Alabama
