Oncologist-mammologist Nazliev: vacation in a five-star hotel with a swimming pool can cause cervical cancer

Oncologist-mammologist Danail Nazliev said that resting in a five-star hotel, in particular, swimming in the pool, can cause cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer (CC) — a disease of the female reproductive system, it is characterized by the development of a malignant tumor on the cervix.

Many five-star hotels and resorts have hidden dangers, Nazliev said. Scientists link swimming in pools with high levels of chlorine to an increased risk of cervical cancer.

The specialist cites a 2018 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research. It turned out that women who swam in hotel pools were twice as likely to develop cervical cancer than those who did not swim.

Chlorine is added to protect against germs, but it can chemically react with some compounds in water, which creates a toxic environment that is dangerous for cells.

– You should avoid swimming in poorly maintained pools, use pools or beaches that are recognized as safe, and avoid contact with strangers in the pool, the doctor wrote in his telegram channel.
