Toxicologist Mikhail Kutushov spoke about the dangers of baking food in foil.
He noted in his blog that foil contains xenoestrogens , which can lead to hormonal imbalance.
– These are chemicals that, getting into the human body, “masquerade” as female hormones – estrogens. When they accumulate, they lead to hormonal imbalance. Such chemicals can cause thyroid dysfunction, obesity, as well as cancer, infertility and other pathologies, the physician warned.
In addition, the foil is harmful due to aluminum, it consists of 90 percent.
– Aluminum can accumulate in the kidneys, thyroid gland, brain and provoke various diseases. I recommend replacing the foil with parchment. Such a material perfectly protects products from burning and retains moisture well, and also does not contain toxins harmful to the body,– the doctor said.
According to doctors, aluminum, among other things, slows down the growth and development of cells, negatively affects the nervous system, according to some reports, — contributes to the appearance of malignant tumors.
What foods can not be cooked in foil
Most often, aluminum becomes dangerous when in contact with red meat and poultry. The release of aluminum increases with the addition of cheese, lemon, spices and salt. Doctors recommend refusing to cook these dishes in foil.
The acid can react with the aluminum and dissolve the foil, allowing moisture and bacteria to enter the food through these holes. It is also not recommended to wrap leftover food in foil. Instead, store them in containers.
Why is it dangerous to bake food in foil?
The difference between foil and parchment
You can tightly cover the form with foil, which you can’t do with baking paper. In addition, it is not designed for high temperatures, and food foil can withstand up to 220 degrees. But if you are baking, choose parchment, which prevents the lower layers from burning and does not require lubrication.

Why foil is on one side matte?
Different surfaces of the foil are not made on purpose, this is a feature of the technological process. Aluminum is rolled into thin sheets of foil with metal rollers, like dough with a rolling pin. One side is in contact with the rollers, which polish it to a shine. The other remains matte.
