Thanks to the constituent substances, lentils effectively support the functioning of the body in women over the age of 40, nutritionist Elena Solomatina said.
Dietitian Solomatina recalled that in the female body after 40, a kind of restructuring begins, due to the upcoming cessation of the fertility period and the onset of menopause. In particular, at this age there is a decrease in the level of the main female sex hormone estrogen, which affects many aspects of health and well-being. Estrogen provides women with protection against heart disease, muscle and bone strength, and maintains youthfulness. A decrease in its concentration is associated with the risk of heart attacks, osteoporosis, intense external aging, and weight gain.
In an interview with Moscow 24, Solomatina noted that it is especially useful for women over the age of 40 to eat lentils – this product helps maintain hormone levels.
“Lentils contain phytoestrogens, which are the precursors of estrogens, the female sex hormones,” the expert said.
In addition, lentils are rich in magnesium, a trace mineral that provides support to the heart. Its other component, calcium, is important for strong bones and developed muscles.
Also, the doctor noted the positive effect of lentils containing antioxidants (bioflavonoids, anthocyanins) on the central nervous system of women.
“When does menopause begin? , the woman becomes more irritable, vulnerable. Lentil corrects and compensates these processes,” Solomatina shared.
The medic added that the antioxidant substances of lentils can, among other things, prevent inflammatory processes and cellular deformations leading to the development of cancer.
Jumping prolongs women's health
Among other things, lentil fiber improves digestion and normalizes stool, helps to improve the intestinal microflora and at the same time strengthen the immune system.
