To effectively combat “bad” cholesterol in the body, it is useful to eat citrus fruits, such as oranges and tangerines.

Eating oranges and other citrus fruits helps reduce the level of “bad” cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins). The organizers of the federal project “ZdravKontrol” reminded about this in their Telegram channel. According to experts, oranges and tangerines contain a lot of pectin, a type of dietary fiber that binds to fat components and is excreted from the body along with them.

The so-called “bad” cholesterol is considered the main enemy of blood vessels, it tends to accumulate and “clog” large vessels and arteries with plaques, thereby disrupting blood circulation and increasing the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, dementia. To prevent the accumulation of “bad” cholesterol and associated atherosclerosis, doctors advise eating healthy fruits twice a day. In addition, to get rid of “bad” cholesterol, they consider it useful to eat nuts and vegetable oils rich in omega-3 – these polyunsaturated fatty acids effectively regulate cholesterol levels in the blood.

If you have high cholesterol, you should carefully monitor the amount of cheese, butter, sausages, prepared sweets, fatty meats and offal, and alcohol consumed. At the same time, your diet should contain enough whole grains, fiber, and lean protein, experts emphasize.

“Normal cholesterol levels are important for the body, since the substance is involved in the formation of sex hormones, is necessary for the synthesis of bile acids, and the production of vitamins of group D. High cholesterol is mainly caused by a sedentary lifestyle, poor nutrition, and excess weight,” doctors say.
