According to a study with data from 80 countries, full-fat dairy products are among the six foods associated with lower mortality.
The inclusion of fatty dairy products in the diet helps protect the body from premature death – this is the conclusion of scientists from the Research Institute for Population Health at McMaster University in Hamilton (Canada). The results of their study were published by the European Heart Journal.
“Our results show that up to two servings of dairy products per day, mostly full-fat, can be included in a healthy diet,” said study lead author Dr. Andrew Mente.
According to the expert, the recent food trend to avoid full-fat dairy products needs to be reassessed.
The analysis of scientists was based on information obtained during the global research project PURE with the participation of almost 150,000 people from 21 countries. Experts studied information about them collected over more than 9 years. During the same time, more than 15,000 deaths and more than 40,000 cardiovascular diseases were recorded among the subjects. Scientists analyzed how the diet, illness and mortality are related in the examined people. Thus, the researchers determined that eating certain foods correlates with better health, which improves protection against premature death.
Red meat still protects against heart attacks
Here's what they think should be included to “longevity diet”:
- 2-3 servings of fruit per day
- 2-3 servings of vegetables per day
- 3-4 servings of legumes per week
- 7 servings of nuts per week
- 2 to 3 servings of fish per week.
- 14 servings of dairy products (mostly fatty, but no butter or heavy cream) per week.
Dr. Andrew Mente stated that a healthy diet involves, first of all, the desire to eat more healthy foods, and not the practice of some kind of food restrictions. For this reason, you need to eat including fatty dairy products, such as whole milk and cheese.
