Associate Professor of the Department of Food Industry Dmitry Bystrov warned about the ability of oatmeal to harm the body.
Bystrov told who is potentially at risk from eating oatmeal. He noted that due to the saturation of fiber, oatmeal can provoke disturbances in the digestive processes and the gastrointestinal tract in some people. If you have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), hypersensitivity to oats, or chronic gastrointestinal diseases, oatmeal should be consumed with caution, ideally after consulting a doctor.
Associate Professor Bystrov also named another disadvantage of oatmeal – its negative impact on blood glucose levels.
“A significant amount of carbohydrates in oatmeal can lead to sharp jumps in blood sugar levels and, as a result, problems with glucose control. People with diabetes and other metabolic disorders should monitor its amount,” the expert advised, speaking to RIA Novosti.
He drew attention to the fact that oatmeal contains phytic acid, which prevents the absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc – microelements that are extremely important for the well-coordinated functioning of the immune system and good health. Eating dishes made from it too often can lead to a deficiency.
“In some people, oatmeal can cause individual allergic reactions – skin rashes, itching, swelling, and even anaphylactic shock in particularly severe cases,” the expert emphasized.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that red meat affects the body differently before the age of 40 and at a later age.
